Catalan Tile Dome 'Tarang' at Pathikashram

The Grid Architects, an architectural firm based in Ahmedabad wanted to construct a dome for their client at Pathik Ashram in Gandhinagar. The function of this space is a café. 

Sankalan suggested a Catalan structure and designed the form of the shell, developed the design structurally and proposed the construction methodology and appropriate materials for the Catalan structure.

Terracotta tiles were used, to construct the shell structure. The outer surface of the Catalan structure was finished with a layer of brick.
