Mrs. Ekta Bouderlique and Mr. Francois Bouderlique, who own a farm near Bhuj, desired to build a farmhouse where they could reside and pursue permaculture farming. They took inspiration from the materials used in Hunnarshala's campus and aimed to incorporate them into their own construction. Sankalan's design team undertook the farmhouse's design in two phases.
In the initial phase, a studio space was created utilizing natural stone, wood, and mud plaster. The house featured a mezzanine floor constructed from off-size wood floorboards. The roofing system consisted of a space frame roof understructure with a thatch roof. In the subsequent phase, an additional floor was added to an existing structure. Compressed Stabilized Earth Blocks, along with lime plaster and mud rolls, were employed to construct the walls, while Mangalore tiles were used for the roof.
The construction process involved the active involvement of Karigarshala students as part of their curriculum, making it a live project experience for them.
